Vernon, BC students benefit from physical activity
"Many of the families at our school lack access to transportation and are unable to transport their
children to activities. Therefore, the children do not have opportunities to participate in healthy activities
that help them develop as well-balanced and active young people."
This story at Alexis Park Elementary School in Vernon, BC has begun to change. With funds raised during the
GoodLife Kids Foundation Be A Kid’s Superhero Campaign, the Okanagan Boys & Girls Club has been able to run
a brand new after school program for students ages 10 to 12 years. Children who don't have the same economic
advantages as others. Children who otherwise are primarily unsupervised after school and at risk of engaging in
dangerous and unhealthy behaviours.
With this new initiative children at Alexis Park are being inspired "to embrace a lifelong interest in participating
in physical activity and healthy nutrition while being provided a safe place to go, grow and belong," says Craig
Monley, CEO of the Okanagan Boys & Girls Clubs.
The Alexis Park School project is just one example of how the funds you have raised during the Be A Kid's Superhero
Campaign are making a positive impact on the future of children across Canada. Funds are also supporting
initiatives in Winnipeg Manitoba, Saskatoon Saskatchewan, London Ontario, Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa Ontario,
Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, Chatham Ontario, Waterloo Ontario, and Saint John New Brunswick.
With your support more children across Canada will have the opportunity to benefit from an active life.
